General Purpose of the data collection

We use your data for helping us provide the content and functions we offer on our websites. The National Bern handles your personal data with care, in a trustworthy manner and only for the purposes mentioned in this document. Furthermore, we adhere to all the applicable data protection laws.

Which data we use and why

Access data
When you visit our websites, whether using your own computer or a mobile device, the browser which you use will automatically send information to the server of our websites. This information will be saved temporarily in a so-called logfile. The following information will be obtained automatically and saved until deleted:
  • Name and URL of the requested page or file
  • Date and time of the visit/request
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Report for successful/unsuccessful request (http response code)
  • Type and version of browser
  • Operating system
  • Referral URL (the last visited site)
  • Websites requested by the user’s system via our website
  • Internet service provider of the user
  • IP address and the provider


We use this data collection logfile without associating the information in it with a particular person. We do not make profiles of our visitors. We use the information for statistical reports for the purpose of our website operations, for the security and optimization of our websites and to anonymously register the number and frequency of visitors to our website (traffic) as well as which services they use.

Newsletter
In the data which is requested for the subscription process to our Newsletter, we include your email address. The subscription information given by the user for the Newsletter will be stored. After the initial registration process you will receive a message to your email address in which you will be requested to reconfirm your subscription request (“Double Opt-in). This is necessary so that third parties cannot use your email to register for the Newsletter.
Exception. All guests using our free WLAN and therefore accepting the “General conditions of our free WiFi system at National BERN” are automatically registered to receive our Newsletter. In this case there is no “Double Opt-in” process.

Your subscription to our Newsletter can be cancelled at any time by contacting us using above-mentioned contact details. You will also find a link at the bottom of each Newsletter enabling you to cancel your subscription.

We log your registration data and store your email address as long as proof is needed that your consent has been given to send you the Newsletter. The legal basis for recording the registration is our legitimate interest in proof that the Newsletter was sent with your consent.
